About Rotaract

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are usually community-based or university-based and are sponsored by a local Rotary club making them true “partners in service” and key members of the Rotary family.

Through the Rotaract program, young adults not only augment their knowledge and skills, but they also address the physical and social needs of their communities while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service.

All Rotaract efforts begin at the local grassroots level and all Rotaract clubs have access to the many resources of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.

As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 7,600 Rotaract clubs in some 158 countries, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon.

Rotaractors also often spearhead the formation of Interact clubs and participate in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. Rotaractors also can go on to become Ambassadorial Scholars or Group Study Exchange team members.

Our Interact Clubs

Interact Club of Evergreen Secondary School was chartered on 27 September 2002.

Interact Club of Greendale Secondary School was chartered on 8 November 2008.

WHAT IS INTERACT CLUB?

Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people made up of members from 14-18 years, in Secondary school, Junior college and Technical Institutions. Interact gives young people an opportunity to participate in fun and meaningful service projects. Interact clubs perform at least two projects a year, with one serving the community and the other furthering international understanding. Along the way, Interactors develop their leadership skills and initiative while meeting new friends. Through their service of activities, Interactors learn the importance of:

  • developing leadership skills and personal integrity
  • demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others
  • understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work
  • advancing international understanding and goodwill
  • Interactors have access to the many resources of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation. Rotary International provides the administrative support that helps Interact clubs thrive.

    HOW IT ALL BEGAN?

Mr Koh Boon Long, Deputy Director – National Education , Ministry of Education was instrumental in introducing Evergreen Secondary School to our club.

Our the President, Claire Chiang and Principal, Mary Koh found common ground for initiating the Interact Club. A recruitment drive on 20 August 2002, resulted in a 49 strong membership.

The Installation, Friday 27 September 2002, was certainly a day that will remain an outstanding event in the tapestry of ‘historic’ moments that are gradually creating the ethos of a promising new school. The Installation was well supported with the presence of Mr Koh Boon Long, Deputy Director – National Education, Presidents and members of our own and other Rotary clubs, school staff and students. The Guest of Honour, President Claire Chiang and PDG John Cheah performed the induction of the charter members.

    INTERACTORS IN ACTION

The interactors are fast gaining exposure. Our Club organized ‘CareerTalks’ for Interactors as well as students of Evergreen Secondary school.
